Meet Our Optometrists

Dr. Matthew D. Skahan, OD

Dr. Skahan was raised in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1994. He then went to Pittsburg State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1998. In 2002, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee with his Doctorate of Optometry. He provides primary eyecare including: fitting of contact lenses, prescribing glasses, and the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases. He works closesly with cataract, refractive, and retinal surgeons to ensure the best care for his patients. He is a member of the American Optometic Association and the Kansas Optometric Association.

Dr. Skahan previously served on the board of directors for the Eye Care Council, board of directors for the Allen Community College Endowment Association, and the Iola Chamber of Commerce board of directors even serving as President.

His interests include weightlifting, and spending time with his children. Dr. Skahan’s wife, Lesley, is also from Iola. They have three boys Jake, Gage, and Mason. They attend St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola.

Dr. Douglas Donnelly, OD

Dr. Douglas Donnelly was raised in Independence, Kansas, and is a proud graduate of Independence High School. He pursued his undergraduate studies at Kansas State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Science in 1984. He then moved to Texas to attend the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he obtained his Doctorate of Optometry in 1988.

Since graduating, Dr. Donnelly has dedicated his career to serving the Iola community. He provides comprehensive eye care services uniquely tailored to the needs of his patients, leveraging over three decades of clinical experience. His strong background in the chemical sciences informs his precise, analytical approach to optometry.

To ensure his patients receive the highest standard of specialized care, Dr. Donnelly works closely with cataract, refractive, and retinal surgeons for pre- and post-operative management and complex cases.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Donnelly is an avid outdoorsman and hobbyist. He enjoys spending his time:

Dr. Donnelly finds great fulfillment in balancing his professional dedication to vision health with his passion for mechanical projects and the great outdoors.
